“I paint the spaces we inhabit—both the wide-open escapes we dream of and the beautifully messy realities we live in every day.

Because my home studio is fundamentally shaped by the loud, fast-paced energy of raising two young boys, my work is an exercise in finding equilibrium. I want my canvases to reflect that tension not just in the imagery, but in the very fibers of the materials.

Before a single brushstroke is applied, I begin with raw, unprimed cotton. Using fiber-reactive dyes, I hand-dye the raw canvas in blindingly bright, fluorescent tones. The neon color physically bonds with the cotton, becoming a permanent part of the substrate. I then stretch the canvas and build my calm, thoughtful images directly over it.

By allowing microscopic slivers of these raw, neon-dyed fibers to remain exposed at the edges of the final piece, I leave a 'neon heartbeat' on the canvas. It is my way of honoring the untamed, joyful life that is permanently woven into our spaces.”
